Letter: Background checks

When I was in the military, I handled classified documents. Because of this I was required to have a criminal background check. When the check was completed, I was given a “top secret” designation to allow me to handle these classified materials.

Recently, the university I work for as a student teacher supervisor asked its employees to get a criminal background check. I went through the process of getting fingerprinted, filling out forms, sending the fingerprints to the FBI, etc. to get my background checked.

It took a couple of weeks to get everything completed and sent to the university. When I finished this process I wondered: Do people who are candidates for president have to get criminal background checks to see if they have any felonies, sexual assaults or frauds in their background?
