When he was 8 years old, his dad, mom and John came to Astoria and lived in Olney. He grew up with his five siblings: Nick Jr., Jerry, Steve, Bill and Phillip. John attended Olney Grade School and St. Mary, Star of the Sea High School.
John joined the U.S. Army National Guard for two years. After his tour of duty, he bought a ranch in Olney.
John was a man of many talents, and was a very ambitious, hardworking man. He raised pigs, mink and cattle. He worked for Knappton Towboat Co., owned the Club 13 Night Club and then went into the trucking and excavation business. He also worked for Bergerson Construction Inc. before he retired.
John increased his cattle herd, loved restoring old tractors and ranching his beautiful property until he passed away peacefully at home after battling cancer.
His wife, Peggy; daughter, Autumn; and granddaughter, Kambell, reside at the ranch. His son, Shawn, resides in Alaska, and John’s granddaughter, Erin, is in the armed forces.
There will be a graveside service and a celebration of life at a later date.
