Ear: Movie

“Astoria played host to a suspense film production,” producer Mike Downey (pictured, right) wrote. “ … Filming for ‘The Cycle,’ directed by Jordan Downey (pictured, left), just finished filming across various iconic locations in the historic coastal town.

“Astoria’s cinematic history makes it the perfect backdrop for ‘The Cycle’ … the filmmakers utilized a variety of striking locations, from Hughes-Ransom Mortuary and the old Clatsop County Jail to the quirky Custard King diner and both Clatsop Community College campuses.

“For residents and fans of Astoria, the production is more than just a movie — it’s another chapter in the city’s rich cinematic history. Keep an eye out for ‘The Cycle,’ and perhaps a few familiar local landmarks (and faces), when it hits screens.”

The producer is also opening Astoria Studios, a film production facility designed to attract more filmmakers to the region. “I envision the studio as a hub for creativity,” he said, “offering infrastructure and resources to create more films in the picturesque and versatile North Coast area.”

“Astoria has so much to offer as a filming location, and with Astoria Studios,” he added, “we hope to make it even easier for other productions to discover and benefit from this incredible town.” (Film crew photo: Mike Downey/Portraits: IMDb)
