Time to sign up for Seaside schools

SEASIDE – The elementary schools of the Seaside School District are now open for registration of students new to the schools. Friday is being set aside for registration at Cannon Beach, Gearhart and Seaside Heights elementary schools. The school offices will be open between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to register incoming kindergarten through fifth grade students.

Parents need to provide a birth certificate and immunization records for incoming kindergarteners. Parents of children who have been enrolled in another school need to bring the name and address of the most recently attended school. If parents are not able to register their child on Friday, they are encouraged to contact the school at (503) 738-5161 as soon as possible to make other arrangements.
Seaside High School has announced that registration for new-to-Seaside School District students will take place from by appointment 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Call (503) 738-5586 to schedule an appointment with the counselors. New students should bring a birth certificate, immunization records and any other documents from their previous school.
The Sept. 3 registration schedule for returning students (including incoming freshmen from Broadway Middle School) is as follows: seniors, 10 to 11 a.m.; juniors, 11 a.m. to noon; sophomores, 1 to 2 p.m.; and freshmen, 2 to 3 p.m.

The high school has already mailed the registration and enrollment packet. The 2009-10 calendar will be available at registration as well as on the school website, www.seaside.k12.or.us
Students must bring the completed forms with them on registration day, along with the required $25 registration fee. School portraits will also be taken on registration day and students should bring payment for those as well. All students, including seniors, must have their picture taken, regardless of whether or not a student is purchasing a picture package.
The Seaside High School Athletic Department has scheduled a mandatory meeting for all fall athletes and their parents/guardians at 7 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium. The athletic office is open now to accept fees. Daily doubles begin Monday. Contact the athletic director, Jason Boyd, for information.
New students and freshmen begin school Sept. 8 for orientation. SHS now offers new students a service called Link Crew, which links freshmen with upper class students who help them make the transition to high school smoother and more productive. The faculty will be linking up with new SHS students through active participation. Buses will run as usual that day to ensure 100 percent participation. Check the local newspapers for bus schedules.
SHS will host an open house at 7 p.m. Sept. 16. There will be a special session for freshmen and parents at 6:30 p.m., which will provide an great opportunity to receive information about SHS.
