Track: Astoria girls win 15 events in dual meet

The Astoria girls track team easily raced past Tillamook, 105-38, in a soggy Cowapa League dual meet on April 6 at Astoria Middle School, while the Fishermen and Cheesemaker boys finished in a 72-72 tie.

Astoria won 15 of the 17 events on the girls side, with multiple victories for junior Ashley Sisley (100- and 200-meters), Ella Zilli (1,500- and 3,000-meters). Astoria also had three different winners in the throwing events: Lily Meadows (shot put), Jena Russell (discus) and Danielle Dugan (javelin).

Astoria sophomore Eva Espelien was a triple winner, taking the 300-meter hurdles in addition to victories in the high jump and long jump.

The Astoria boys picked up wins from Andrew Wintersteen (400-meters, 55.93), and the Fishermen dominated the distance events with victories by James Roehr in the 1,500-meters ( 4 minutes, 36.70 seconds) and Tommy Laman in the 3,000-meters ( 10 minutes, 35.59 seconds).

Astoria had three teams in the 1,600-meter relay, with Luke Cummings teaming with Roehr, John Clement and Wintersteen for the win.

Matt Evans won the shot put ( 46-2 1/2). Owen Williams cleared 5-10 to win the high jump, and was second in the long jump and triple jump.
