Fire season begins in July

Fire season in Clatsop County will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.
Fire season begins each year when fire hazard conditions exist. Under the declaration, Northwest Oregon joins most other regions in Oregon already in fire season. The declaration impacts all lands, both public and private.
A countywide burn ban will be simultaneously in effect. Open debris burning will not be allowed starting Monday.

Recreational sockeye fishing closes
Sockeye retention on the main stem Columbia River closed on Friday.
The recreational fishery has met its allocation.
The sockeye return includes a small number of Snake River sockeye, which have been federally listed as endangered since 1991. Returns have improved in recent years but are still in need of protection.
Chinook retention remains open upstream of Bonneville Dam through Sunday as originally scheduled. Summer steelhead also remains open as scheduled.
Multiple injuries reported in crash
on Highway 101 south of Seaside
A two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 101 south of Seaside on Wednesday afternoon resulted in multiple injuries.
“We transported six patients by ambulance,” Cannon Beach Fire Chief Marc Reckmann said.
The patients were brought to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.
Offices to close for Fourth of July
In observance of the Fourth of July on Thursday, all federal, state, county and city offices, including Astoria, Warrenton, Gearhart, Seaside and Cannon Beach city halls, are closed. All U.S. post offices are closed, and there is no mail delivery.
Astoria, Jewell, Knappa, Warrenton/Hammond and Seaside (including Cannon Beach and Gearhart) school district schools, and Clatsop Community College, are closed.
The Astoria Library, Seaside Public Library and the Warrenton Community Library are closed.
The Port of Astoria offices and services are closed.
Garbage collection through Recology Western Oregon and the city of Warrenton garbage collection are not affected by the holiday. Recology Western Oregon’s transfer station is open until 2 p.m.
The Sunset Pool in Seaside is closed. The Astoria Aquatic Center is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Clatsop County Heritage Museum, Oregon Film Museum, Flavel House Museum and Carriage House are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Uppertown Firefighters’ Museum is closed.
Fort Clatsop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Columbia River Maritime Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Sunset Empire Transportation District is running.
The Astorian offices are closed, and no newspaper will be delivered.
