The Astoria Historic Landmarks Commission has signed off on a new mural at the Astoria Armory.

The project, sponsored by CareOregon, is part of a statewide effort to improve community mental health. 

Casey McEneny, a Newport artist, will complete the 3,741-square-foot mural on the north wall of the Armory.

CareOregon agreed to revise the design to remove tribal motifs after hearing concerns from the Chinook Indian Nation.

The Historic Landmarks Commission voted 4 to 0 on Tuesday to approve the revised design.
