Astoria

July 14, 1957 — Dec. 2, 2024

John Terry Jensen, 67, of Astoria, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 2.

He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Max and Frances (Christensen) Jensen, on July 14, 1957.

John was an electrician, and started Marine Boat Works in Warrenton. He repaired many fishing boats along the Oregon Coast. His phone rang often from stranded fisherman, and his advice brought home many distressed crews from as far away as Alaska. His wealth of knowledge will be forever missed.

He was a member of North Coast Chapter of ABATE, and loved riding motorcycles with friends. His love of the American flag will be remembered by all who rode with him, as he saluted each and every flag he passed.

John was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, and loved hosting gatherings to watch football, celebrate holidays and birthdays. He enjoyed playing dice games, and each gathering always concluded with everyone sitting at the dining counter laughing and rolling dice.

He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, and a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

John is survived by his brother, Steve Jensen, of Deer Park, Washington; sister, Deena Hector, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and three nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Jensen.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at the American Legion, Clatsop Post 12, 1132 Exchange St.

His final resting place will be with his family at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

A motorcycle ride with John’s ashes is planned for this summer. Details will be available at the American Legion.

Thank you to his many friends and neighbors who offered support over the past few months. Special thanks to his Lower Columbia Hospice nurse, Amanda DeBock, the amazing volunteers at End of Life Choices Oregon from Portland, and John’s caregivers, who gave John his final wish, to remain in his home until his death.
