Letter: Backbone

Join me in voting for Deanna Hammond and Erik Ostrander for the City Council of Cannon Beach!

Being a small-business owner in a small town often means more than just owning it. It means being the accountant, business manager, marketer, opener and closer, social media coordinator, HR and everything else a successful business needs.

On any given day, Erik will clean several rooms, check guests in, wash, dry and fold laundry, do some basic maintenance tasks, and fix the computer — and then maybe go on a couple of calls as a volunteer firefighter!

Deanna’s bakery is a hub of activity and a cherished stop for locals and visitors; she is an active part of the downtown business community and donates baked goods whenever requested. Although both are busy, they make time to talk with locals, listen to their concerns and participate throughout town in several other capacities. They both are thoughtful, caring folks who love this town.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and a central part of Cannon Beach’s fabric. Advocacy for small businesses is sorely lacking in our council, and Erik and Deanna have essential perspectives and voices that will help our community.

Voting for Erik and Deanna is another way of supporting our mom-and-pop shops!
