Members of “The Goonies” cast appeared on NBC’s the “Today” show April 7, and clips of the interview were posted online. A screenshot of the group is shown.

Of course, they were asked how they feel about a Goonies sequel being put in development by Warner Bros. “They’re doing it. Whether we’re doing it or not is another story,” Feldman said. “But I can tell you for sure, Spielberg and Chris Columbus have the recipe, and they’re planning on something. We wish them well, and if they come to us, we’ll consider it at that time.”
“After (the sequel news) came out,” Astin recalled, “Stephen Spielberg sent me a poster saying ‘I’m still a Goonie. How about you?’
“He’s wanted to make the sequel, and he’s the sole reason it hasn’t been made, not because it hasn’t been right. The fact that he is endorsing this thing is why we know it’s going to happen. And that’s why it has a better chance of being spectacular.”
Astin also told “Today” that fans want a sequel, and have earned a sequel, and whether that sequel is good or bad, nothing can take away what they accomplished 40 years ago. That’s a good point to remember. (Screenshot: NBC/“Today”)
