A 34-year-old Warrenton man was arrested Saturday by the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office for the alleged sexual abuse of a 16-year-old male.

Sidney Sean Mecham was taken into custody and lodged in the Clatsop County Jail on one count each of third-degree sexual Abuse, furnishing alcohol to a minor, failure to report as a sex offender and probation violation

Reportedly, Mecham met the victim by chance at a local park last summer. He became a family friend and allegedly began abusing him in October. The victim was able to stop the abuse in late November and came forward to family members recently after further alleged harassment from Mecham.

Mecham is listed by Oregon State Police as a predatory sex offender following a 1999 conviction in Multnomah County. Despite having lived in Warrenton since July, Mecham reported his address as an apartment complex in southeast Portland.

Police are not aware of any other victims.
