Fifteen-year-old Poh the dog’s veterinarian delivered the bad news that the beloved canine didn’t have long to live, so Poh’s owner, New Yorker Thomas Neil Rodriguez, decided to take his fiancée and Poh on a bucket list dream vacation across the country, according to an ABC News story (http://tinyurl.com/pohvisits).
In all, the trio visited 35 cities and traveled around 12,000 miles, and Poh had a comfy bed on wheels to use any time he wanted to take a nap. “I initially wanted to get him to the Pacific Ocean,” Neil told ABC. “I have always wanted him to swim. He loved it, it was so healing for him. It was like he was five years younger. He was walking with a lot of energy.”
They visited iconic locations and landmarks around the U.S., including Graceland, Washington, D.C., and of course, the Goonie House. The pair are pictured, courtesy of https://instagram.com/pohthedogsbigadventure, which documents the trio’s epic journey. Poh is also pictured in a very recent photo, inset, looking quite rested and perky after his vacation.
“My life is kind of hectic,” Rodriguez told ABC. “I’m always traveling, but Poh is my home, my child. I think this (trip) resonated with a lot of dog owners. They wish they could do stuff like this with their dog and spend these moments, but sometimes life gets in the way. I am super blessed that I have actually gotten to do this. People think I take care of Poh, but Poh takes care of me.”
By the way, Rodriguez helped Poh do the Truffle Shuffle in the Goonie house front yard, “so now he’s a Goonie,” he posted on Instagram, “and Goonies never say die.”
