Astoria Regatta Festival Court selected

Four high school students have been chosen for the Regatta Court for the 2013 Astoria Regatta Festival. The court will be giving speeches, making appearances and attending parades throughout the season. This year marks the 119th year of the Astoria Regatta Festival, which will be held Aug. 8-11. The theme is Astoria Regatta 2013 A River Runs To It.

The queen for the 2013 Regatta court is Emily Severson, a senior at Warrenton Hiagh School and the daughter of Randy and Suzanne Severson. She is a straight A student who additionally takes classes at Clatsop Community College. She is a member of the Little Ballet Theatre, National Honor Society, Student Council and Key Club, and enjoys ballet. She works at The Great Wall Restaurant and Lounge. She plans on going to college to pursue a degree in engineering.

Michala Warren, daughter of Michael and Mary Warren, is a junior at Astoria High School. She is a member of Business Leaders of Tomorrow, Key Club, Ski Club and takes Health Occupations through Columbia Memorial Hospital. She is also a member of the I Heart Performing Academy. She has lettered in French and track, has been with the Astoria Marching Band Color Guard for three years, and works for Jonathons Antiques and Jewelry. She hopes to pursue a career in the health care industry.

Kim Dowaliby, daughter of Todd and Dixie Dowaliby, is a junior at Warrenton High School. She is a member of student council, Future Educators of America, and National Honor Society, where she is currently treasurer. She is a varsity letterman in cross country, basketball and track and field. She is a member of the choir, the Viking Nordic Dance Group, Astor Lodge No. 215, and the 4-H Black Sheep Club. A volunteer at CMH, she has volunteered with the Astoria Regatta Association and the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival. She has received several awards, including the American Legion Award, Lamp of Knowledge and Freshman of the Year Award.

Jamie Schraeder is the daughter of the late Krysta Schraeder and lives with her grandfather, Mike Barber. She is a junior at Warrenton High School, is a second year member of the National Honor Society, serves as a teachers aide at Warrenton Grade School, is on the Lady Warriors softball team and works at Astoria Golf and Country Club. She is determined to become a doctor.

Madison Hunt, the daughter of Brett and Tiffany Hunt, is a junior at Knappa High School. She is president of the student body booster club, was sophomore class president and has been on the honor roll every year since sixth grade. She has received numerous awards, and, along with a group of fellow students, put together the first Emmett Rubus Easter Egg Hunt. She has volunteered for many activities and various fundraising projects for her class, served on the homecoming and prom committees, and planned school activities and pep assemblies. She loves working with children and helping others, and is a teachers aide and babysits for many community families.
