Vintage Vows: The Arielle Clark & Reed Beauduy Wedding

Cupid needed a little help getting Arielle Clark and Reed Beauduy together.

In this case, Cupids helpers were a relative and Match.com.

My sister set up an account for me, Arielle explains. I wasnt too excited about meeting someone online, but she set it up for me anyway.

Not long after, Reed contacted Arielle and impressed her enough that she agreed to meet him for dinner.

I met him in Portland at a little restaurant on Northwest 23rd. Its funny, I definitely knew from the moment I met him that I really, really liked him. It wasnt just because of the way that he looked. It was a feeling, Arielle says.

Later, they discovered they were members of the same yoga studio and had similar interests. We were already crossing paths, Arielle says. Some things are just meant to be.

Things moved pretty quickly after they met.

The relationship was going so well; were just really perfect for each other, Arielle says.

Reed proposed while they were sitting on their deck playing cards. She, of course, said yes.

They decided to marry in June, and wedding planning began in January.

Starting out, Arielle knew she wanted a vintage theme centering on Dean Martins Volare. (To fly.)

I knew I wanted that to be our wedding dance song, because my grandmother used to listen to it all the time, Arielle says.

With help from her mother and sister, Arielle took a hands-on approach to the details. She chose black and pink as her colors. After reading wedding articles for ideas, she decided to make all the centerpieces herself. Using ingredients gathered at Michaels, she incorporated vintage glass and ribbons with elements of the beach sand, shells and flowers into her design.

After shopping at several vintage stores, the bride opted for the ease of Davids Bridal for her gown and bridesmaids dresses. Many of her bridesmaids live in California, so a national chain made it simple for them to try on dresses in their hometowns. It took about three hours, but she found the perfect dress: a strapless lace gown.

Arielle made everything more special by personalizing the dresses with creative touches. For a little vintage flair, she added an ivory sash with a black flower to her gown. She also visited online artisans at Etsy. Her handmade veil was created by Pure Blooms, and the bridesmaids black dresses were embellished with pink sashes made by Lavender Lounge.

The groomsmen wore their own black suits. Fedoras from Goorin Brothers in Portland, along with cigars handed out at the reception, made the guys look like extra members of the Rat Pack. Dean Martin, the King of Cool, would have approved.

The cake, white with butter cream frosting and a raspberry layer inside, was made by friend and pastry chef, Daniele Martin.

I cant wait to eat it on our anniversary, Arielle says. It was very, very good.

The ceremony was held June 1, 2012, at the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach at the Haystack Gardens. Only a block away from the beach, the location was perfect for the bride and groom, who both love the outdoors.

It ended up being really fun, Arielle says. Its like the party you have for all your friends and family, one of the only parties like that youll ever throw, so you want to make it super-fun for them.

Congratulations, Reed and Arielle!

One of the lines of Volare is No wonder my happy heart sings, your love has given me wings.

May you continue to fly happily together all the years of your lives.
