Obituaries: Elma ‘Jane’ Thornton

Elma “Jane” Thornton, 86, of Warrenton, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, in Astoria.

She was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Eugene, to Arthur T. and Elma L. (Ludford) Moses. She was raised in Eugene and graduated from Eugene High School in 1940. She attended Oregon State University.

On Oct. 13, 1941, she married Alden K. Thornton in Reno, Nev. He survives, residing in Warrenton. The couple moved to the Clatsop County area in 1987, residing in Warrenton.

Mrs. Thornton worked in Eugene for Welcome Wagon for a period of time. She also worked as a receptionist for optometrists.

Family members said her hobbies included quilting, cross stitching and knitting.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James Thornton and Anna Blair of Warrenton; two grandchildren, Pamelia J. Woodcock and her husband, Brian, of Sublimity and Wayne A. Thornton and his wife, Nancy McCormick of Springfield; a sister, Virginia Neal of Vancouver, Wash.; a close friend, Nancy Magathan of Astoria; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, William K. Thornton, in 1980; a daughter-in-law, Linda Thornton, in 1996; and a brother, Jack Moses, in 1984.

Mrs. Thornton requested that no funeral service be held.
