Places to visit: the Nehalem Fish Hatchery

Looking for places to visit on your trip to the North Oregon coast? Why not spend some time at the Nehalem Fish Hatchery, on Hwy. 53.
The best time to visit is from late September to January. The hatchery faises coho and fall chinook, salmon, steelhead and rainbor trout.
At the hatchery, spawning activity and adult fish viewing are available from October through February. A covered indoor display provides information. Access to a fishing
. Access to a fishing platform for steelhead and salmon angling is available for those with a Wheelchair License, Blind Angler’s License, Disabled War Veteran Angling License, or Permanent Disabilities Permit.
Nearby: Nehalem Hatchery is located between Nehalem Bay State Park and Saddle Mt State Park. Umbrella Falls viewed from the hatchery property after taking a 1/8 the of a mile hike down a wooded trail. Fishing for the following species is available during authorized seasons when fish are present from the hatchery property. Winter Steelhead, Coho, Fall Chinook, Cutthroat Trout.
To get to the hatchery, from Hwy. 26: take Hwy. 53. The hatchery is located at milepost 8.
From U.S. 101, take Hwy. 53. Proceed 11 miles to the hatchery.
