Obituaries: Margaret L. Mather

Margaret L. Mather, 95, of Astoria, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, in Astoria.

She was born March 26, 1913, in Spokane, Wash., to Oscar and Edna (Wiley) Swanson. She was raised in Klickitat County, Wash. When she was 14 years old, the family moved to Bay City in Tillamook County, where she graduated from high school.

She married Albert H. Mather Aug. 3, 1932, in Tillamook. He preceded her in death in 1999. The couple resided in Bay City until 1944, when they relocated to Astoria. They settled in the Svensen area in 1974.

Mrs. Mather was a member of Rebekah Lodge No. 51 in Bay City and the Astoria Christian Church.

Family members said she enjoyed flowers, sewing, hunting, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Ted R. Mather of Astoria; a daughter, Carol J. Lemon of Bend; four grandchildren, Lynn Brown and Chris Mather of Astoria, Shawn Zorich of North Pole, Alaska, and Troy Mather of Eugene; two step-grandchildren, Lynn Lemon of Bend and Leo N. Lemon San Jose, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren, Jeremy Brown, Michael Mason Brown and Hannah Rae Mather, all of Astoria, Evan and Erin Zorich of North Pole and Jeanne Anne Webb of Bend.

At Mrs. Mather’s request, no service will be held.
