Obituaries: Robert Stewart Whitman

Robert Stewart Whitman, 86, of Gearhart, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Hillsboro.

He was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, to Russell and Beulah (Mosher) Whitman. He was raised in Ohio.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Marjorie Zender. She preceded him in death Sept. 21, 2003.

Mr. Whitman lived in Seattle, Yakima, Wash., and Oahu and Kauai, Hawaii. In 1972, he moved to Portland, then to Seaside, where the couple managed The Tides Motel, eventually buying a house in Gearhart. He also drove a school bus for the Seaside School District.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jana B. and Dennis Perkins of Beaverton.

He was preceded in death by a son.

No formal service will be held.
