Obituaries: Mary ‘Irene’ Jones

Mary “Irene” Jones, 80, of the Long Beach (Wash.) Peninsula, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in Kirkland, Wash.

She was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Hartford, Conn., to Mary (Haveron) and Basil E. LaBreche.

In 1943, she graduated from Ellsworth High School in South Windsor, Conn. She attended the St. Agnes Home, School of Nursing where she received a diploma in obstetrics and pediatric nursing in 1945. Moving to Portland in 1946, she went to work as a nurse at the Waverly Baby Home. She also did private duty pediatric nursing.

She married Robert George Jones Sr. April 20, 1949 in Portland. He preceded her in death in October 2006.

The couple moved to Altoona, Wash., and to the Long Beach area in 1971.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaview, Wash., since 1955, Mrs. Jones was an active member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society, and in prior years was a member of the St. Teresa Club in the Rosburg/Naselle, Wash., area.

Family members said she loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Jones is survived by four sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Jones Jr. of Warrenton, Jonathan G. Jones of Stayton, James A. Jones of Ilwaco, Wash., and Joseph M. and Rachel Jones of Scotts Mills; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Jones-Woods and her partner, Dale Welling, of Olympia, Wash., Carol (Jones) and Tom Schoenfelder of Snohomish, Wash., Julie (Jones) and Jim Cartwright of Mt. Angel and Teresa Jones of Ocean Park, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret M. Regan of Portland and Norma T. Pence of Richland, Wash.; a brother, Gerald LaBreche of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Saint Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be held in the church hall.

A graveside committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
