Victor Samuel “Sam” Shults, 79, of Weaverville, Calif., formerly of Seaside, died Sunday, July 15, 2007, in Weaverville.

He was born Dec. 18, 1927, in North Bend, to Eldon Victor and Lila Evelyn (Powell) Shults.
Mr. Shults joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1946. He flew as a radar operator in B-29s and B-50s and was honorably discharged in April 1949.
A partner in the Arch Cape Shingle Co. from 1950 to 1960, he attended Northwest College of Law and passed the bar exam in 1959. He practiced law in Seaside from 1960 to 1972. He was in the cable television business in California, Washington and Oregon from 1972 to 1886.

A member of the Seaside Elks Lodge, he was also a member of the Seaside Rotary, Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, the Trinity Players in Weaverville and the Jaycees. He was a volunteer fireman, and also volunteered at Wild Life Safari in Winston.
Family members said his hobbies included fishing, camping and set building.
Mr. Shults is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki M. and Ed Corder of Svensen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay A. and Sandy Shults of Weaverville and Victor Mike and Susan Shults of Portland; a stepson, Jim Cummings of San Francisco; a stepdaughter and spouse, Jean and Charlie West of Bend; nine grandchildren and four spouses, Brenda and Mark Pedersen of Seattle, Brian and Lori Corder of Svensen, Anita and Russell Wheeler of Weaverville, Jason and Ronna Shults and Christy Lorrance of Portland, Jackie MacKnelly and Brian Willis of Arizona and Tony and Jon Rugust of Bend; and 11 great-grandchildren, Cody, Sydney and Emily Pedersen of Seattle, Natasha, Eddie and Bailey Corder of Svensen, Kayley and Kyle Wheeler of Weaverville, Kassidy Shults and Liza Lorrance of Portland and Maddison MacKnelly of Arizona.
A graveside service will be held at a10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. A reception will follow at the Seaside Elks Lodge, 324 Avenue A, in Seaside.
