CHENEY, Wash. – Naselle boys’ pole vaulters Colton Gilbert and Tylor Nortrup finished second and third, respectively, in the Washington state Class 2B track and field championships held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, May 25 and 26.
Both set personal records in recording their high finishes and scoring 14 team points for Naselle to put the Comets into second place in the team point race following the first day’s competition.
Gilbert, a freshman, cleared 12 feet, 3 inches to claim second place while Nortrup, a sophomore, cleared 11-6 for third.
Senior Erin Saari was the lone point-scorer for the Naselle girls, as she took second in the pole vault with a mark of 10-0, after a second-place finish in 2006.
Willapa Valley senior Chelsi Friese won the event for the third year in a row, breaking her old record of 11-3 with a vault of 11-9.
