GRAYS RIVER, Wash. – The Wahkiakum Community Foundation’s board of trustees will receive state funding to purchase five acres at the Grays River covered bridge to create Ahlberg Park, named for the pioneer family who homesteaded the area.

Located a short distance from Washington State Route 4 in western Wahkiakum County, the bridge is on the National Historic Register. The property nearby will be purchased from the owner with the specific understanding that it be used as a park for the public.

The park will be managed by the Grays River Covered Bridge Fund Committee, composed of citizens of the Grays River/Rosburg, Wash., and Naselle, Wash., areas. The fund annually gives grants to charitable organizations and activities in western Wahkiakum County and Naselle.

Ahlberg Park will be dedicated Aug. 4 during the annual Covered Bridge Celebration.
