A Book Review: A CLEARING IN THE WILD by Jane Kirkpatrick

I’m actually reading the second book in the series but thought I would tell you about this one first. A teacher friend has long recommended that I read Jane Kirkpatrick books as she has won awards and is a best selling author from right here in Oregon! She resides on a ranch in Eastern Oregon and I’ve actually been blessed to have met her.

This particular story takes place mostly in Missouri and Washington State (and eventually Oregon too) as the people of Bethel, Missouri in the 1850’s try to live set apart from others. The story is about a young woman named Emma Wagner who has problems with the communal life and where this leads her as they travel the prairies and mountains….The Oregon Trail…to a new life in the Pacific Northwest. This is great historical fiction..based on a true story and from a woman’s point of view.
