Starting in June, the Tillamook Cheese Factory will offer daily summer visiting hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Christie Lincoln of the Tillamook County Creamery Association said the plant has drawn up to 1 million visitors a year since opening for public tours in 1979. Because of the interest, some areas have been renovated.

To help with growing traffic congestion, the gift shop has been remodeled and an additional stairway leading to the observation deck has been built.

Since it began making cheese in 1909, the Tillamook Cheese plant has produced more than 83 million pounds of cheese.

A parade will be held in downtown Tillamook June 29 as part of the June Dairy Festival and Tillamook County Rodeo.
