Janice M. Hiatt

Motel clerk, 67Janice M. Hiatt, 67, of Knappa, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 in Knappa.

Ms. Hiatt was born March 21, 1936 in Bottineau, N.D. to Harold R. and Gladys B. Dalbec Hiatt. She moved with her parents to Medford at the age of 10 and lived there until the early 1960s, when she moved to Walnut Creek, Calif. In 1966 she moved with her family to Clatsop County.

She worked as an office clerk at several motels in the Astoria area for more than 25 years, retiring in the late 1980s. Family members said they will remember her for her love of doing craft work.

Ms. Hiatt is survived by a son, Gordon Taylor of Valdez, Alaska; a sister and brother-in-law, Myrna and Bill Thompson of Medford; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Richard Hiatt of Warrenton and Garry and Nancy Hiatt of Bremerton, Wash.; a nephew and his wife, Richard and Kelly Solomon of Knappa; a niece, Michelle Solomon of Springfield; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Two sisters, Ginger Solomon and Jackie Greenwell, and a nephew, Danny Solomon, died earlier.

Private interment is today in Greenwood Cemetery.

Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
