SEAVIEW, Wash. – The historic Sou’wester Lodge in Seaview welcomes back playwright and performer Beth Amsbary at 8 p.m. Saturday April 5.

Her performance features “Widening Rings of Being: The Poetry of Rumi,” the poetry of a 13th century Islamic mystic Jelahuddin Rumi. His stories relate divine encounters in ordinary life.

The event features the translations of Coleman Barks, performed by Amsbary in playful duet with musician Patrick Shaw. Barks was featured on Bill Moyers’ poetry series on Public Television.

Amsbary is a theater artist whose work is centered in exploration of artistic language, spiritual practice and political analysis. She has been the Visiting Artist for the Frick Art and Historic Center, offered residencies at the University of Illinois and the University Congregational Church, was Founding Artistic Director of Seattle Public Theater and currently is on faculty for Taproot Theatre Company’s Acting Studio.

Shaw will accompany her. His performances have spanned the gamut from Civic Light Opera to the guitar/flute duo “Sweet Sounds” to Celtic and rock.

The performance is directed by Terry Moore who has directed productions across the United States, from Merely Players in Manahattan, Brandeis University, Pillsbury House in Minneapolis, Actors’ Lab in Arizona to the Bathhouse Theater and the Shakespeare Festival in Seattle.

Everyone is welcome at this performance, one in the series of casual cultural events at the Sou’wester Lodge. Complimentary light refreshments are provided. Admission is by donation to charity, which serves local children and youth. No one, however, is ever excluded because of a lack of funds. Because of limited seating, advance reservations are advised. For information and reservations, call the Sou’wester at (360) 642 -2542.
