SEASIDE – Fritz Weber and Luminos turn the Magnolia Lounge at Lil’ Bayou into a party at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30.

Bringing people together for good times and fun in a party atmosphere is the specialty of this band from Portland. They play a variety of songs from rock and rhythm & blues to zydeco, drawing on influences from New Orleans and the Caribbean. The result is lively, danceable, hip-shakin’ music with bouncy rhythms, sometimes called “rhumba-boogie.” Their music is made more colorful by the variety of instruments: piano, sax, flutes, trombone and percussion. Topping it off are harmonies featuring male and female vocalists. “This is a multitalented and multidimensional band,” said owner and chef John Sowa.

Fritz Weber is the lead vocalist and plays a Yamaha electric keyboard and a Cajun/zydeco style accordion. He provides the rhythm section and other instruments such as organ, piano, guitar, trumpet and steel drums. He’s been a respected Portland band leader for years.

Julie Weber plays flute, alto flute, piccolo and percussion, including bongos, congas, timbales, shakers, cymbals and a rubboard from New Orleans. She’s a lead and backup vocalist and sings in three other languages: French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Lil’ Bayou is located at 20 N. Holladay Drive. Cover charge for both shows is $3.
