An interview with Robin Christensen, who with her husband Dan, owns Cannon Beach Bakery, 240 N. Hemlock, Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach Bakery has been serving customers since November of 1998. Robin Christensen’s husband, Dan, is a third generation Danish baker and together this couple brings 34 years experience to the business. The bakery is well known for its Haystack Bread.
In addition to serving customers in person, the Christensens also do mail orders.
The bakery is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed Tuesdays. Starting Memorial Day weekend it will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. For more information call (503) 436-0399.
What do you want people to know about your business?
“We’re a full line bakery and all our products are made from scratch. We added a deli in June.”
Tell me about your favorite part of the business.
“The customers and making them happy.”
How far does your customer base extend?
“We serve customers from all over the world.”
What can you tell me about the volume you do?
“During our peak season we serve from 300 to 600 people a day.”
Has anything about this business surprised you?
“Although it really isn’t a surprise, it’s how happy we make our customers.”
I understand you’re known for your Haystack Bread.
“Yes, our motto is “Home of the original Haystack Bread.” It used to be baked in approximately the shape of the famous Haystack Rock which it is named for.”
You said your business is labor intensive. Can you tell me why?
“Yes. It’s because all our products are made from scratch.”
Would you like to add anything about bakeries in general?
“Bakeries are always important in any town.”
