Letter: Casino benefits

“Enough,” you say, but you’re only looking at one side of it (“Don’t bet on this idea; Oregon doesn’t need more gambling,” The Daily Astorian, Jan. 27).

What about the benefits to the state, and our school system that really needs the money to keep key programs like band, sports and theater? These are just some of the small things that are being taken from our kids so that the schools can afford regular teachings. What about the benefits that these casinos will generate? I think this is your opinion on the matter; you’re only showing one side of it.

Before you condemn something, maybe you should look into more than just one side of it. There are pitfalls to everything in life; that’s what makes it life. What about the jobs it will create, and what about the revenue for the state that will hopefully go to the Oregon schools that need it to keep kids in school and in college?

One thing for sure is that our school system needs a big shot in the arm with a big dose of cash to help keep kids learning anything and everything they can. I know some bad things will come of private casinos, but what about the good they will bring?
