Weddings: Brookhyser-Alstrom

Brookhyser-AlstromAnne Dorothy Brookhyser of Astoria, daughter of Paul and Evelyn Brookhyser of Newport, exchanged wedding vows with Bradford Kelley Alstrom of Astoria, July 10, on the beach at Fort Columbia State Park in Chinook, Wash. He is the son of Jim and Jane Alstrom of Bear Lake, Mich.

The bride and groom were given in marriage by their parents in an evening ceremony officiated by Rev. Jack Harris. The bride wore a silk dupioni fitted, floor-length dress with princess seams, back drape and sweep train, made by the bride’s mother.

As in Muslim/Middle Eastern tradition, the bride hosted a belly dance party for women only on the eve of the wedding and had henna designs applied on her hands and feet.

The wedding was dedicated to the couple’s son, August Benjamin Alstrom Brookhyser, stillborn July 20, 2003.

Matron of honor was Capella Lapham de Miguel of Portland. The wedding party included Eric Alstrom of Okemos, Mich., Erica Brookhyser of Eugene, Jim Brookhyser of Corvallis, Tracy Erfling of Astoria, Sally Lackaff of Astoria, Mick Mitchell of Astoria, Alise Osis of Lincoln City and Michael Walsh of Portland.

The ring bearers were the couple’s godchildren, Quilaztli Miguel Lapham of Portland and Toveri Harris Erfling of Astoria.

The bride graduated from Newport High School in 1993, Friends World Program of Long Island University in 1998 and Clatsop Community College in 2004. After the honeymoon she will work as a public health nurse at Clatsop County Health and Human Services. The groom is a 1988 graduate of Farmington High School in Michigan, and a 1993 graduate of the University of Michigan. He is a housing rehabilitation specialist at Community Action Team.

A reception was held at the Fort Columbia State Park Theatre. The couple honeymooned on Prince Edward Island and in Nova Scotia.
