Gladys Wilhelmina Alto

Seaside resident, 86Gladys Wilhelmina Alto, 86, Seaside, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 in Seaside.

Mrs. Alto was born Dec. 17, 1917 in Astoria to Emil and Sophie (Lundgren) Bjork. She grew up and attended school in Astoria.

On Feb. 12, 1938, she married Frank Alto in Astoria. He died in 1997.

Mr. and Mrs. Alto were resident of Seaside all of their lives except during World War II. At that time, they lived in Portland where Mr. Alto worked on Liberty ships.

Mrs. Alto worked for Uptegrove Plywood, Bjorks-Larson Dairy and Bell Buoy Crab.

Family members say she loved flowers and was known for her green thumb. She also enjoyed traveling, be it at Washington to dig clams or spending some winters in Hawaii. Mrs. Alto was a very positive person who loved her Swedish heritage.

Mrs. Alto was one of the founding members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Marta Alto of Portland and John and Dorothy Alto of Sherwood; a sister, Doris Paldanius of Salem; two grandsons and their spouses; John and Tammy Alto of Sherwood and Chris and Sandy Alto of Portland; two granddaughters and a spouse, Amanda and Jonathan Foley of Seattle and Anastasia Alto of Portland; and two great-grandchildren, Jillian and Jarrett Alto of Sherwood.

Funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Seaside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, in care of Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside, OR 97138.
