Wells Fargo will donate a total of $700 this winter to the Astoria School District through its Team Up For Our Schools initiative, a program created to help public schools during a time of budget problems.

The money will go to the Business Leaders of Tomorrow program at the high school, the Kids Interested in Careers program at the middle school, and the English as a second language club at the high school.

“Wells Fargo has a long-standing commitment to education,” said John Lansing, manager of Wells Fargo’s banking store in Astoria. “Our team members make their own personal contributions to schools, which are matched by Wells Fargo.”

“(Wells Fargo’s) support really means a lot to the staff and students of the Astoria School District,” said Mike Sowder, superintendent.

The money will go to club activities under the direction of faculty members, he said. “It’s really neat to get that extra money and give them an extra boost.”

The Team Up For Our Schools program raised $2.9 million for schools throughout the company’s 23-state banking territory. The donation to each school district was based on the number of qualifying consumer accounts and services opened within each school district during the two-month Team Up For Our Schools program last summer.

Wells Fargo team members in Oregon also held school supply drives for needy children during the program.
