Betty Girtle

Restaurateur, 85Betty Girtle, 85, of Seaside, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 in Seaside.

Mrs. Girtle was born Aug. 2, 1919 in Fleming Gardens, Ind., to Otis and Elizabeth (Brightwood) Gray. In 1921, her family moved to Portland, where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937.

In 1941, she married Bob J. Girtle. He survives, residing in Seaside.

The couple were partners in the restaurant business for more than 60 years, operating restaurants in Portland and Seaside. The family moved to Seaside in 1972.

Mrs. Girtle was an avid golfer and bowler, bowling in many leagues. Family members said she was always cheerful and outgoing.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law Robert and Kathy Girtle of Seaside and Thomas Girtle of Seaside; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial service is 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 220 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside.
