SALEM – The Oregon State Fair ended earlier this month, but not before fairgoers consumed more than a half ton of sugar via cotton candy.
Want some more facts from what fair planners dubbed “Fun, Oregon?” Patrons visited 12 ATMs 12,000 times. Fair staff walked the distance that equals almost half of the circumference of the earth. The amount of hay and straw used by fair animals was 3,000 bales, while they also bedded down on 2,000 cubic yards of wood chips. And more than 7,000 pounds of food waste was collected by fair garbage crews.
The dates for the 2005 State Fair are Aug. 25 through Sept. 5. The advertising campaign of “Welcome to Fun, Oregon” again will be used because of the overwhelming positive response of fairgoers and exhibitors, according to fair organizers. Results from the many competitions can be viewed on the State Fair Web site: www.fun-oregon.com
