Cannon Beach resident Deb Atiyeh has joined the board of Sea Turtles Forever/Blue Wave.

The nonprofit group monitors endangered sea turtles and researches the effects of plastic debris in the Pacific Ocean along with cleanups.

Atiyeh runs Deb Atiyeh & Associates, a sales and marketing company for fashion accessories. She previously volunteered with North Coast Rocky Habitat to help protect nesting birds, and helped develop firework enforcement in Cannon Beach. She also helped pass the city’s recent 5% tax on prepared food.

“Deb’s skills in communications, her lifelong connections, and her passion for wildlife and the environment makes her a perfect fit for our team at Sea Turtles Forever/Blue Wave,” said Ed Johnson, the board’s chairman, in a statement.
