The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued two penalties in September for environmental violations in Clatsop County.

Mike Gedenberg Trucking in Astoria was fined $39,090 for failure to immediately clean up an oil spill when a truck owned by the company crashed on state Highway 202 in Astoria in February.

Mike Gedenberg said he is appealing the penalty.

The Westport Sewer Service District was fined $5,925 for exceeding E. coli bacteria effluent limits in the district’s wastewater discharge permit. The district was also fined for failing to submit a plan for facility improvements and maintenance activities to prevent future exceedance of E.coli required by a previous Department of Environmental Quality order.
