The Goonies” universe was shaken up last week when Rumbledore, who describes himself as a gaming video creator, put up the movie poster shown. The poster has gone viral.

Rumbledore’s comment accompanying the poster, “Hey you guys, it’s official! ‘The Goonies 2’ is set to hit theatres July 7, 2026,” only added fuel to the fire. As of Tuesday, the post had over 76,000 “likes” and over 14,000 comments. There was such a fuss that even Snopes.com has an entry about whether or not the movie poster was fake.

The date Rumbledore posted the image should have warned everyone right off the bat: April 1. Rumbledore’s admission it was a prank in the first comments apparently wasn’t noticed by many.

“I hope people are smart enough to realize this was an April Fools joke,” one commenter noted. But many couldn’t, or wouldn’t, get the joke. And the hope for a “Goonies 2” endures.
