Astoria Aquatic Center offers laps, lessons, open swim

For those looking to stay active indoors this winter, the Astoria Aquatic Center provides lots of opportunities.

The center features four pools, a gym and a cardio fitness area. One of the pools is a six-lane, 25-yard pool. The other swimming areas are a recreation pool with a lazy river, hot tub and heated wading pool for children.

Weekly open swim hours in the recreation pool are from 6 a.m. to noon and 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

For the little ones who are taking swim lessons, the pool is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and again from 4 to 7 p.m.

Lap swimming is available Monday through Saturday, with hours on weekdays between 6 a.m. and noon and 5 to 7 p.m. On Saturday, lap swimming is available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The lap pool also hosts aqua aerobics classes Tuesday through Friday. Strength and Stretch is on Wednesday and Friday at 8:30 a.m. and water exercise is on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 a.m.

For those who want to use the weight room, the gym is open Monday through Saturday. On weekdays, the gym is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

With swim season back in session, the pool will host the Astoria High School swim Team at 4 p.m. daily. All lanes will be in use during swim team hours.
