Bjorn Osterholme

Hillsboro

May 12, 1947 — May 4, 2016

Bjorn Thomas Osterholme was born to Georgia Viola Jones and Eric Bjorn Osterholme in Astoria, Oregon, where he grew up. After graduating from Astoria High School, he served his country by entering the U.S. Army. Upon honorable discharge, he entered the Oregon Police Academy, and served in the State Police in the Grants Pass area. He returned to Astoria, where he served his community as a city and county police officer in Astoria and Seaside, was a professional high climber, ran logging crews and had a small diving business.

A first marriage resulted in the birth of two children, Derek and Lisa.

In 1990, he married the love of his life, Sandra Jean Derr Osterholme. Together, they established and ran Bjorn’s Tree Service. It continues as a successful business, with the same high standards today.

Bjorn was a big-hearted, kind, generous, mischievous man. He loved his family with all of his heart. He affected so many with his kindness. If you met him, you didn’t forget him, and you probably have a funny story about him and his antics. He was an exceptionally hard worker and a physically strong man. It took nine years and four major surgeries for stage 4 cancer to tire out his heart.

Bjorn will live on in the memories of a large extended family: his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Sandra Jean; a sister, Linda Joliff, and brother-in-law, Herb Joliff; a brother, Eric Osterholme; a sister-in-law, Ginny, and her husband, Dan Stupfel; a sister-in-law, Terri Thompson; a son and daughter, Derek and Lisa; his stepsons, Jeff (wife Norma) Breazile, Steve (wife Heidi) Gossett and Jeremy (wife Julie) Gray; his stepdaughters, Darby (husband Randy) Theisson and Jaime (husband Steve) Sutton; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lance Osterholme and Neils Osterholme; and a grandson, Jeremiah.

A private celebration of life will be held.
