The Clatsop County Jail inmate who damaged a jail window in February has pleaded guilty.

Logan Douglas Holt, 27, of Warrenton, pleaded guilty in Clatsop County Circuit Court earlier this month to second-degree criminal mischief. An attempted escape charge was dismissed.

Holt claims he never intended to escape.

He was sentenced to six months in jail to be served at the same time as a four-year prison sentence for previous assault and theft convictions.

The jail incident occurred Feb. 22. He placed a bolt in a pillowcase and used it to break out a window in the jail. He damaged the window, but did not break it out. The damage was estimated at more than $400. He is ordered to pay restitution for the damage.

A passer-by saw it happening from outside the jail and reported it to the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office.

The damage to the jail window is the second incident in less than a year. Two inmates tried to escape in July by breaking off a shower drain grate, tying it to a bed sheet and swinging it against a window until the window shattered.

The only other escape attempt on record occurred more than a decade ago, when an inmate jumped from the roof of a recreation area and was caught a day later.
