Select area fisheries under the microscope

A public meeting will be held in Astoria Wednesday to discuss select area fisheries on the Columbia River.

The meeting will include a presentation on spring chinook run size expectations for the select areas. Organizers will call on the public to become involved in the 2014 winter, spring and summer select area fishery planning process.

The select areas included Youngs Bay, Blind Slough/Knappa Slough, Tongue Point/ South Channel and Deep River.

Other topics will include near-term outlook for select area fishery enhancements. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 204 W Marine Drive, Astoria.
