Seaside man honored for heroism

Specialist Daniel A. Stowers of the U.S. Army received the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device for heroically distinguishing himself as a Rifle Platoon Combat Medic with the 3rd Platoon Wolverines, Blackhawk Company, 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, on July 23, 2011, while conducting Operation Cobra Quake in the Zahri District in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

His valorous actions that morning led to the successful treatment and subsequent medical evacuation of two casualties, saving both of their lives. His personal sacrifice, and complete disregard for his own safety, helped save the lives of his fellow soldiers throughout 3rd Platoons operation.
Stowers is a graduate of Seaside High School. He is the son of Darryl and Debra Stowers of Cannon Beach.
