It’s been a bumpy ride for owner Neal Cummings, but on Monday, Astoria’s Pizza Schmizza will close.

“I couldn’t make a go of it in this town,”?Cummings said this week.

Cummings opened the pizza-by-the-slice franchise in the fall of 2007, and had hoped his first foray into the restaurant business would be a success.

But ultimately, the business never took off, he said. It might have been the prices, which were similar to those in Portland, or the location at 750 Astor St, Cummings added.
