Bond, James Bond: Casino Royale “Review”

Go see CASINO ROYALE !! I was totally prepared to HATE this new Bond but read a few things before I went to the movie, like ROTTEN TOMATOES review giving it over 90% Fresh Tomato reviews! http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/casino_royale/ That is almost unheard of on that website unless it’s a dumb foreign film! Well, I guess TECHNICALLY this is a foreign film if you count England as foreign.

I have to tell you that my DH is definitely a Bond fanatic ….as am I but I don’t let him know that. He has every one of the movies on either video or disc and someone bought him a special tabletop book last year for Christmas. He even has built models of Bond’s favorite car. (The Austin-Martin?)

Most of this comes from DH actually meeting the ORIGINAL AND BEST JAMES BOND, SEAN CONNERY when he was stationed in Miami. They were filming THUNDERBALL at the local Coast Guard base and with the help of the Coast Guard. DH said that he was very nice…had tattoos up and down his arms as he was a “lorry” driver in Great Britain before he was discovered. They had slathered makeup on his arms to cover the tattoos but you can see them if you look hard enough in his movies. (Oh, and my first date in college was going to that very movie, ironically.)

I discovered him (Sean Connery), myself, when I was in 6th grade. I saw the movie DARBY O’GILL and the LITTLE PEOPLE. Do you remember that? I was INSTANTLY in love with the handsome leading man…and I DON’T mean Darby O’ Gill…lol No, it was Sean Connery and I was intrigued with everything about him. The way his lips moved, that wonderful Scottish accent, that I got quite good at actually, when I was the leading man. I wonder how many times my neighborhood buddies and I would act out our little plays of the movie that summer. We would sing the songs, and I mean we, or at least I, would REALLY get into it! It was so much fun and our imaginations ran wild. The Banshee made us shiver all over again and the romantic feelings…well. [My “boyfriend” was tall, dark, and “handsome”, too, so that helped in the reenactment. (What was he, 11?) Although I must say that when I ran into him again after moving away for about five years that he looked totally different than I thought he would at 15! LOL Must have been my hormones. I may have changed too, because he didn’t even recognize me which was fine with me….ha]

Anyhoo, to get back to the movie…it was great..! It was violent, but I don’t remember any swearing and the sexy bits were just tame enough…if I remember. The women were beautiful, (that red dress…WOW!!) the villain was great (great lips for a villain)…Mads Mittsomething from Denmark, and Bond had great eyes…a bit homely, but something about him…believable…good actor. I wanted Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera) to play the next Bond, but after seeing the awfully hard stunts, I’m glad he was spared!) I remember Daniel Craig in other movies I’ve seen that I really liked…one being THE ROAD TO PERDITION. Of course, I didn’t realize it was him until I saw his filmography..

It’s good, he’s good, the plot is a little convoluted, if that’s the word, but it’s very entertaining, so who cares. Go see it, it’s worth the popcorn.

Ps. How do women stay alive that thin?
