SEAVIEW, Wash. – With the return of fall, Sou’wester Lodge innkeepers Len and Miriam Atkins say they are happy to resume their series of cultural events by Sou’wester guests, now in its 24th year.

The Sou’wester welcomes back as guests, friends and performers, husband-and-wife team Jim Stapleton and Diana Bigelow. They return to the Sou’wester at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, to present “Sanctuary Reflections in Song and Story,” a program of their original work. Their elegant literary style has charmed Sou’wester habituees during their previous dramatic presentations here, which include “Henry & Emily” (Thoreau meets Dickenson), “Playing for Keeps” (their own love story) and Mark Twain’s “Diaries of Adam & Eve.”

In the 1980s, Stapleton was resident naturalist at the John Burroughs Sanctuary in West Park, N.Y. While there, he was drawn to the lore about the natural history of the place and organized these observations into an almanac of stories and meditations. The evening’s program will feature selections from these writings as well as Bigelow’s songs which, though written a decade later on the Olympic Peninsula, share with the stories a reverence and resonance with the natural world.

As with all Sou’wester performances, admission is free. Donations are welcomed and given to public causes. For information, call (360) 642-2542.
