Warrenton – Coming soon to Youngs Bay Plaza in Warrenton – more shopping opportunities.

A 7,000-square-foot building that will house five new retail stores is planned for the shopping center, which is located on U.S. Highway 101, just south of the Warrenton end of the Youngs Bay Bridge.

According to Carol Parker, Warrenton’s city planner, the new building will be built on the south end of the plaza, on the highway side. The front of the building will be across the parking lot from Subway, Gannaway Bros. Jewelers and other existing businesses. The developer is Atlas Investments LLC of Portland, which owns Youngs Bay Plaza and other shopping centers in Oregon.

Parker said Gary Gilbert of Atlas Investments is very easy to work with. “They like being proud of their shopping centers,” she said, adding that the company has cleaned up nearby Holbrook Slough, including the part on the North Coast Fred Meyer side.

Parker said the new building will adhere to requirements of an amendment to the city’s development code that was approved last month. The amendment imposes standards on retail developers, requiring them to make their buildings attractive by using varied materials and interesting architectural details.

Construction of the building could start before the end of this month, Parker said.
