SEASIDE The illegal sale of alcohol to minors has led to citations at six businesses in Seaside, Gearhart and Cannon Beach.

The Seaside Police Department recently teamed with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission to conduct compliance inspections. Two 19-year-olds attempted to buy alcohol at 33 establishments in south Clatsop County.

Six businesses sold liquor to the decoys. In each case, the employee involved was cited by police.

Selling alcohol to a minor carries up to a $7,500 fine and one year in jail.

Officials said the businesses that agreed to sell alcohol to the underage decoys included Rite Aid, Stop & Go (North) Convenience Store, Dels Chevron and Seaside Gulf Station in Seaside; Gearhart Grocery; and Mariner Market in Cannon Beach.

These compliance inspections are done on a random basis, said Seaside Police Chief Bob Gross.

This latest inspection was conducted in anticipation of two major events in Seaside in August: Beach Volleyball and the Hood-to-Coast Relay.

The businesses that refused to sell to the decoys included Safeway, Stop & Go (South) Shell Station, U Street Pub, Ken and Sons Market, Seaside Liquor Store, Discount Cigarettes, Fultanos Pizza, Finns restaurant, Twisted Fish restaurant, Dundees Bar and Grill, the Bridge Tender, Seaside Brewing Co., Shilo Oceanfront/The Boardwalk restaurant, Sams Seaside Café, Beach N Brew, Mazatlan Mexican restaurant, Herbs Burgers & Beers. West Lake Chinese restaurant, Rileys restaurant and lounge, Station market, Moodys Supper Club, Pizza Harbor, Turnaround Market and Tsunami Sandwich Shop in Seaside; Recreation Lanes and Gearhart Junction Café in Gearhart; and Warren House Pub in Cannon Beach.
