It’s about that time again. Reopening day for our TWELFTH SEASON (can you believe it?) is set for Friday, February 17th at 1pm. Chances are even as you read this we’re making ice cream and preparing for the big day. As usual we’re open on the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) 1-8pm, and 1-6pm on Monday (President’s Day only). See the schedule below for complete February hours.

I said last year that I had little interest in getting involved with Facebook, and if you’re curious as to why I changed my mind, let me assure you it’s not because their stock is going public. I didn’t think we needed a Facebook page, until I discovered…we already had one.
That’s right…I was talking (OK, posting in a chat room) with friends who suggested I look up some information that happened to be on a Facebook page. While there I noticed a link to another ice cream shop in Texas, and I wondered if there was anyone with the “Zinger” name on Facebook. Lo and behold – a site called “Zinger’s Homemade Ice Cream” appeared on the listing. I said to myself, “Hey – that’s us!” And since I didn’t create this page, I was…curious.
Long story short – there was no “real” info on the site except where we were located (Seaside), so I took the initiative to sign up personally (I didn’t know that to utilize Facebook you have to BE ON Facebook). I was able (after a protracted battle) to take possession of the site so we could post some “real” information like new flavors, hours changing, and the like. I did have a fear that someone would find the site, not see anything worth seeing, and then NOT come visit us. Worse yet, they might think we’d gone out of business (it happens). So here we are.
The Facebook site is still a work in progress though we’re not rushing to do it*. We will add some timely information as we go along (see Monthly Flavor Report below). Of course, you can friend us and post things like all those pictures you take when you’re in the store eating Oregon Hazelnut or Chocolate Peanut Butter or a hot fudge sundae. Knock yourselves out!

* There are a couple of reasons for this: One, we already have a website (http://www.ZingersIceCream.com) with lots of information – why duplicate? Second, if you’ve used Facebook, you may agree with me that it’s not wonderfully user-friendly, and customer support is next to nil (or maybe I’m just old). Finally, see “MySpace.”
WHAT ELSE IS NEW?
Not much. There’s no tunnel construction, no flooding, no snow on the mountain (as I write this), and no good reason not to come see us. Heck, we even kept last year’s prices intact (for now – see Monthly Flavor Report below). We missed you and not having any ice cream left over from last year for US to eat made US crazy, so we can imagine how you feel. We have yet to decide on what new flavors we might introduce, but…hey, you could always post a suggestion on Facebook.
FEBRUARY SCHEDULE
Our first weekend coincides with the President’s Day weekend, so we’ll have extended hours as follows:
· Friday – Saturday – Sunday: 1pm to 8pm
· Monday (Prez Day): 1pm – 6pm
The next weekend is the Seaside Jazz Festival (yes, they did change the name – same great show only better) and our hours will be as follows:
· Friday – Saturday: 1pm to 8pm
· Sunday: 1pm – 6pm
MONTHLY FLAVOR REPORT
As I mentioned above, we’re not certain as to what new flavors we plan to make this year, but we do know that we will continue to make certain that everything we offer is the best it can be. We’re still committed to avoiding artificial anything as much as we can, making ice cream using a base with no corn syrup, and by going “local” as much as we can (although Oregon has a great agricultural bounty, they don’t grow everything here – more on this in a future newsletter).
We do know that we plan to bring back a few “Oldies but Goodies” like our Burgundy Black Cherry, which is featured this month. We also know that, as in past years, we can fall victim to our suppliers’ decisions. Availability issues, price issues, and other issues make us cringe and flail our arms and curse the economy and…well, we do what we can. So far, the results speak for themselves – we’ve always been able to bring you the very best in ice cream, and there will always be something to like.
Oh, and as we switch flavors in and out, we’ll post the changes on Facebook. Here are the 24 flavors we start off with in February:
