Astoria Regatta announces contest winners for 2012

Listed below are the winners of various awards and contests held during this years Astoria Regatta, which ran Aug. 8 through Aug. 12.

Wednesday

Kiwanis Junior Parade: Float Winner and entrant in the Grand Land Parade was Danny Lahti with his float Godzilla Attacks Astoria. He is the son of Richard and Melissa Lahti of Astoria.

Thursday

Astoria Regatta Coronation: 2012 Queen Emily Severson of Warrenton High School, daughter of Randall and Suzanne Severson.

Merchant Window Decorating Contest: Commercial Street Antiques & Collectibles at 959 Commercial St., owned by Jim and Mary Krettler.

Astoria Regatta President Awards presented by Regatta President Eric Paulson: Chaperone and Escort Don and Renay Patterson, Chuck and Fran Godwin and Dan Arnoth.

Friday

Rose Planting Ceremony by Portland Royal Rosarians to honor: 2012 Regatta Admiral Shawn Teevin, 2012 Regatta Queen Emily Severson, 2012 Regatta President Eric Paulson, 2012 Anchor Skipper Billie Hodges, Anchor member Colleen Hensley, Violet Paulson and Capt. Bruce Jones.

Saturday

Lektro/U.S. Bank Grand Land Parade Awards: Queens Award: Pullyalup Valley Daffodil Festival of Tacoma. Presidents Award: Portland Royal Rosarians. Admirals Award: Marysville, Wash. Maryfest Strawberry Festival. Ambassadors Trophy: Olympia, Was. Lakefair Festival. 1st Place Equestrian: Wells Fargo Stagecoach. 1st Place Commercial: Clatsop Care Center. Mayors Award: Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival. 1st Place Band: Astoria High School.

Honored guests recognized from Northwest Festival Hosting Association, festival presidents and representatives from: Tacoma, Seattle, Spokane, Marysville, Leavenworth, Wenatchee, Portland, Issaquah, New Westminster, British Columbia.

Lower Columbia Classic Car Show winners: Ambassadors choice: 1946 Ford two-door sedan owned by Rob and Linda Cunningham, of Tillamook. Admirals choice: 1970 Chevy Chevelle owned by Pat OGrady, of Astoria. Participants choice: 1948 Chevy Fleetliner owned by Ross Glasson, of Longbeach, Wash.

Englund Marine Twilight Boat Parade: Best of power: Calm by Jim Hyde, of Portland. Best of Sail: Luscious by Bo Knab, of the Portland Yacht Club. Best of Classic: Otter by Sea Scouts, of Portland. Best of Commercial: Lady Laura by Marty McMaster, of Astoria Commercial Fishing. Queens Choice: Triump by the U.S. Coast Guard, from Cape Disappointment Ilwaco, Wash.

Sunday

Astoria Yacht Club Ducky Derby winners: 1st place Melanie Dressler; 2nd place Rae Goforth; 3rd place John Baker. Last duck up for adoption, he was not sold and jumped in any way to finish last in the race. This duck needs some serious bath tub training before next year.
