Kelsie Houghtaling is traveling to Cuenca, Ecuador this month to spend four weeks volunteering in orphanages for the Orphanage Support Services Organization.

Details of the group can be found on the web site www.orphanagesupport.org

The daughter Lynne and Stephen Houghtaling of Astoria, she is a recent graduate of Astoria High School, and has completed two semesters at Brigham Young University.

Volunteers in the program do everything from changing diapers and feeding infants to giving physical therapy or teaching English. Houghtaling has a lot of experience with children already and has worked with children with special needs in high school.

I’ve wanted to do something like this for a very long time, she said, and going with OSSO has been such an answer to my prayer. They are so organized and professional. I’ve talked with several girls who have traveled to the orphanages, and all of them say it has been the best experience of their life. I can’t wait to go serve the children.
